Technical

It is likely that this is lantern was used to illunimate the interior of a building such as a station or depot. Tell tale signs that this lamp was not used on rolling stock is the presence of a wood bracket and no retaining spring or yoke for the chimney. There is evidence of a missing metal piece at the top of the wooden bracket which have been a lamp canopy. (see Ref. 2)
