This artifact was most likely acquired from Crown Assets (see 1968.0597), and probably originally was used at the Forest Products Laboratories, a unit of the Dominion Forest Service. The Labs were founded in 1913 in Montreal in cooperation with McGill. From the 1920s to the 1950s, forest products, entomology, and pathology was the main focus of the Dominion Forest and later Canadian Forest Services. New Laboratories were established in Vancouver in 1918, and in Ottawa in 1927. the Ottawa lab became the head office. In the 1960s the research on forest products was expanded. The lab, located in Vancouver was later renamed Forintek.
