American Lewis Waterman patented the first 'practical' fountain pen in 1884. His pens, functioning sue to capillary action, quickly increased in popularity and within six years Waterman led the U.S. pen market. In 1899, Waterman opened factories in Canada and overseas to meet the growing demand for his fountain pens. With the expansion of his company, Waterman started producing pens in a wide variety of designs made with high-quality materials and also manufactured specialty items such as pen cases and inks. - Notes sur la région
