Part of a large collection of medical artifacts, archival material & trade literature transferred to CSTM in 2002 from the former History of Medicine Museum, Toronto, ON. Pablum developed by Drs. Tisdall, Drake and Brown at Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto in 1934. Originally marketed through Mead Johnson as "Mead's" prior to Drake's coinage of the term "Pablum", c. 1934. Thin mixture: 1 level tablespoonful Pablum/ plus 2 tablespoonfuls of liquid makes a feeding of/ about 2 rounded/ tablespoonfuls./ Normal mixture: 1 level tablespoonful Pablum/ plus 1 tablespoonful of liquid makes a feeding of/ 1 rounded tablespoonful./ FEED AMOUNT DIRECTED BY PHYSICIAN/ WHEN USED IN SPECIAL DIETS OF/ CHILDREN, CONVALESCENTS AND/ ADULTS/ 1 portion- Pour 1/2 to 3/4 cup Pablum into cereal/ bowl. Gradually add an equal amount of milk (any/ desired temperature) and stir well with fork. Serve/ with milk or cream; sugar and salt as desired" printed on back panel.
