Canada: This type of television receiver was developed and used in the development of Canada's Telidon videotex system. It was also used as part of field trials. The Telidon program began on August 15, 1978 and ended on March 31, 1985.
Fonction: This television receiver was used as a videotex display monitor on early Telidon systems.
Technique: This television was modified by Electrohome in order to be used in Telidon field trials. It was adapted to provide access to individual red, green, blue (RGB) video information and external Composite Video signals in addition to standard TV broadcast. The television also has a woodgrain finish metal casing. Unlike a standard television, the VIDEOTEK 25 C41832 is a high voltage device due to the high voltage required for Telidon system equipment. As it was not until 1962 that the Canadian Electrical Code required grounded three-prong outlets for all new homes, this was a problem for Telidon as field trials demonstrated that about half of Canadian homes lacked ground protection, which make high voltage Telidon equipment a safery risk. In 1983, the North American Presentation Level Protocol Syntax (NAPLPS) graphics language develop from the Canadian Telidon system was formalized, ratified and adopted as a world standard for graphics transmission by computer.
