Technique: Wenham introduced his beam splitting prism in 1861 for use in a binocular microscope. This resulted in one tube straight & one inclined. Wenham microscopes were popular for the rest of the century because the prism could be removed to restore monocular vision, important for use at higher powers & resolution (ref.1,pg73-74)
