This artifact is linked to the Vancouver-based 3D television animation scene that emerged in the 1990s and 2000s. It is associated with the digitization of Canadian culture and the world’s first 3D animated digital television series. It reflects the evolving relationship between art and technology. The aesthetic qualities of ReBoot were new and unique and reflected both the possibilities and limitations of computer animation software in its early stages of development. Function

Silicon Graphics SGI INDIGO computers were used by Mainframe Entertainment to run Softimage 3D computer animation software. This computer was used to run the scanners until updates to software made it obsolete. Silicon Graphics workstations were used to create and render 3D animation and as modeling machines to take in the data from the scanner and guide it into Mainframe’s SGI-based system. Les ordinateurs Silicon Graphics SGI INDIGO était utilisé par Mainframe Entertainment pour les logiciels d'animation Softimage 3D. Cet ordinateur était utilisé en conjonction avec des scanners jusqu'au point ou les mises à jour aux logiciels les ont rendus périmé. The Silicon Graphics SGI Indigo computer was produced over a three-year span between 1991 and 1994. It was a high-performance computer used mainly for 3D graphics and was the most capable graphics workstation of its era. It was optimized for 3D visualization with hardware-accelerated three-dimensional graphics rendering capabilities. This machine was hence ideal for high performance computing environments. L'ordinateur Silicon Graphics SGI Indigo était produit pendant seulement trois ans entre 1991 et 1994. Il était un ordinateur de haute-performance utilise principalement pour le graphique en 3D et il était le meilleur et plus capable pour son ère. Il était optimisé pour la visualisation en trois dimensions et avait du matériel informatique accélérer pour rendre les graphiques en 3D. The object is encased in a green synthetic plastic shell that holds the metal computer components inside of it. It has two synthetic plastic feet of the same colour that widen out at the base to support the object. A metal fan is visible on the back end of the computer and it also has two other detachable plastic covers that are for the front of the artifact. L'objet est tenu en place avec une coquille synthétique en plastique de couleur verte qui protège les composantes en métal à l'intérieur de l'objet. Il possède deux pieds synthétiques en plastique de la même couleur qui élargit à la base pour appuyer l'artefact. Un ventilateur en métal est visible sur le dos de l'ordinateur et il y a aussi deux autres couvertes en plastique qui sont conçus pour attacher au-devant de l'objet.
