This artifact was used by CEPE [Central Experimental and Proving Establishment] that was later known as AETE (Airborne Experimental and Test Establishment), a DND (Department of National Defence) department at Uplands airport. The Canadair CP-107 Argus aircraft was one of the aircrafts upon which it was installed. Cet artefact était utilisé par le CEPE (Central Experimental et Proving Establishment) qui a été renommé l'AETE (Airborne Experimental et Test Establishment). Il était un département situé au Département de la Défense Nationale (DND) a l'aéroport Uplands. L'Argus Canadair CP-107 étais un de ces avions qui ont installé l'oscillographe.

Function

This artifact was used to record the data provided during aircraft tests. It could possibly also have been used to test an aircraft after it had been repaired or overhauled using up to fifty channels. L'artefact fonctionnais en enregistrant des données durant un vol qui était conçu pour tester un avion. Il a possiblement été utiliser pour tester des avions réparés ou ceux rappeler pour des révisions en utilisant jusqu'a cinquante chaînes.

Technical

The Consolidated Electronics Type 5-119 recording oscillograph was introduced no later than 1953. Cameras would be installed on an aircraft and controlled with the help of a control panel. The oscillograph would record information while up to four cameras would be have pre-set settings in order to photograph panels. It was used to record information onto a paper roll, of various systems on the aircraft, like the airspeed, hydraulic pressure, position of landing gear, altitude and many others. L'oscillographe Type 5-119 conçu par Consolidated Electronics a été introduit avant 1953. Des caméras auront été installé dans l'avion et contrôler avec l'aide d'un panneau de commande. L'oscillographe enregistrait de l'information pendant que jusqu'à quatre caméras étaient préréglés à photographier de panneaux. L'oscillographe enregistrait la pression hydraulique, position du train d'atterrissage, vitesse, élévation et encore d'autres. L'information était enregistrée sur un rouleau de papier attacher à l'oscillographe.

Finish

A black metal box shaped object with an orange top that has a hinged lid. The front of the box shows a series of black synthetic knobs with white lettering beneath them. Several metal switches on its proper left side also have the same writing above them to illustrate their function. Two clear synthetic covers show a pressure gauge as well as proof that the artifact is recording. The back of the oscillograph has four rows of thirteen metal plugs as well as two white synthetic cables coming out of a metal spout. The bottom of the artifact sits on two metal tracks to allow it to be bolted down. Une boite en métal de couleur noire qui a un couvercle orange qui s'ouvre avec des charnières. Le devant de la boite à des boutons noirs synthétique avec du lettrage blanc en dessous. Des interrupteurs en métal sont visibles sur le bon côté gauche de l'objet et ils ont la même couleur de lettrage au-dessus pour illustrer leur fonction. Deux couvercle claire faite avec du matériel synthétique dévoile un manomètre ainsi qu'une preuve que l'artefact est en train d'enregistrer. Le dos de l'oscillographe a quatre rangées de fiches en métal et deux câbles synthétiques blancs qui sortent d'une buse. En dessous de l'objet il y a deux rails pour pouvoir attacher l'objet a un autre objet avec des boulons.
