This NASA Manned Spacecraft Center identification card belonged to Owen Maynard, a Canadian who started at NASA as an Aeronautical Research Engineer for the Space Task Group, working first on Project Mercury before turning to the Apollo Program. He became integral to the early design of the Apollo Command and Lunar Modules. Maynard was the first person to begin working on the design of the Lunar Module in 1961 and became Chief of Systems Engineering in the Apollo Program Office in 1964. Dated to May 4, 1964, this identification card was issued to Maynard the year he became Chief of Systems Engineering in the Apollo Program Office, showing material evidence of his move from NASA’s Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia to the Manned Spacecraft Center in Houston, Texas. - Function
-
To identify an individual as an employee of NASA’s Manned Spacecraft Center in Houston, Texas. - Technical

The card is enclosed in a clear plastic to protect it from wear. The metal gromet at the top of the card allows users to attach the card to a clip, indicating the card was meant to be kept visibly on their person.
