Phantom 2 drone was the first to be employed by CTV Edmonton for newsgathering. Cameron Wiebe would become the broadcaster’s first drone pilot. This Phantom 2 drone permitted CTV Edmonton to sufficiently demonstrate the benefits of drone videography for the station’s newsgathering and broadcasting purposes. CTV Edmonton eventually upgraded to their next drone (an Inspire 1 Pro), which resulted in the Phantom 2 being retired from service. CTV Edmonton’s Remotely Piloted Aircraft System RPAS which began in 2014 now has three licensed drone operators and a fleet of drones (Mavic 2 Pros) which they use for each daily live news show (4 times per day, for traffic, weather, and news stories), as well as for pre-recorded content. Function

Used to hold the Phantom 2 drone that was operated by CTV Edmonton. This case could transport the drone as well as offer protection during transportation for the Phantom 2 drone and some of its spare parts or accompanying components. Cet étui a été construit pour protéger et transporter le Phantom 2 drone utilisé par CTV Edmonton. Technical

The DJI Phantom 2 was among the first consumer drones available in Canada that were designed specifically for capturing aerial video. The most significant feature, according to Cam, was the Phantom 2’s gyro-stabilized video capabilities, which permitted the capturing of smooth aerial video. Other features such as smooth flight and stable hovering capabilities, decent flight time (up to 25 minutes per battery) and rechargeable and replaceable batteries also came standard with the drone. The Phantom 2 did not come equipped with its own camera however. CTV Edmonton used a GoPro Hero3+, purchased separately, with its Phantom 2 drone. Finish

A square black synthetic case with three stickers on its front lid. The case has a black synthetic handle as well as two latches that have a metal spring hinge system. On the inside part of the latches is a patent number. The lid itself also has metal bars running across a hinged back. A metal clip is also visible on either side of the handle with a small hole in its center. A circular button with lettering on it can be seen above the handle as well. Un étui noir fait en matériel synthétique qui a trois autocollants sur son couvercle. L'étui a une manche synthétique ainsi qu'une clenche de chaque côté de la manche. Les clenches fonctionnent avec un système de ressorts faites en métal. À l'intérieur des clenches il y a un numéro de brevet. Le couvercle est tenu en place avec des tiges en métal et un dos à charnière. Des agrafes en métal avec un trou à leur milieu sont visibles de chaque côté de la manche. Un bouton avec du lettrage est aussi en haut de la manche.
