Phantom 2 drone was the first to be employed by CTV Edmonton for newsgathering. Cameron Wiebe would become the broadcaster’s first drone pilot. This Phantom 2 drone permitted CTV Edmonton to sufficiently demonstrate the benefits of drone videography for the station’s newsgathering and broadcasting purposes. CTV Edmonton eventually upgraded to their next drone (an Inspire 1 Pro), which resulted in the Phantom 2 being retired from service. CTV Edmonton’s Remotely Piloted Aircraft System RPAS which began in 2014 now has three licensed drone operators and a fleet of drones (Mavic 2 Pros) which they use for each daily live news show (4 times per day, for traffic, weather, and news stories), as well as for pre-recorded content. Function

This video monitor was used to display the Phantom 2 drones captured footage for the CTV Edmonton news broadcasting team. Ce moniteur vidéo démontrais la séquence filmé par le drone Pantom 2. Les vidéos étaient utilisé par CTV Edmonton pour leurs émissions.

Technical

The DJI Phantom 2 was among the first consumer drones available in Canada that were designed specifically for capturing aerial video. The most significant feature, according to Cam, was the Phantom 2’s gyro-stabilized video capabilities, which permitted the capturing of smooth aerial video. Other features such as smooth flight and stable hovering capabilities, decent flight time (up to 25 minutes per battery) and rechargeable and replaceable batteries also came standard with the drone. The Phantom 2 did not come equipped with its own camera however. CTV Edmonton used a GoPro Hero3+, purchased separately, with its Phantom 2 drone. Finish

A flat rectangular shaped object made of black synthetic material. A transparent synthetic screen takes up most of its front with white writing below it for a manufacturer’s name. Six round buttons are below the writing. The base of the monitor has a copper coloured metal hole that is threaded. The top of the monitor has two copper coloured bolts that are headless and threaded. The back of the monitor has a manufacturing sticker with white lettering on it as well as seven copper coloured metal contact points for a battery. Un objet en forme rectangulaire fait avec du matériel synthétique noire. Un écran transparent occupe la plupart de son devant et il a un lettrage blanc en dessous avec le nom du fabricant. Six boutons ronds sont en bas du lettrage. La base de l'objet a un trou en métal de couleur laiton qui est fileté. Le haut de l'objet a deux boulons sans tête de la même couleur qui sont filetées aussi. Le dos de l'objet a un autocollant avec de l'information sur le manufacturier en lettrage blanc ainsi que sept points de contacts pour une batterie de couleur laiton.
