These cross sections of a wind turbine were designed by Peter South in 1982 in order to promote his product for US markets. - Function
-
This cross section was used to demonstrate the construction and test the strength of a wind turbine blade and the way in which separate sections are assembled. - Technical

Adecon Energy Systems Ltd was launched in 1982 with the purpose of building VAWTs for the commercial market. Adecon's strategy was to build a low-cost machine using a very light blade and an external frame support structure instead of guy wires. This reduced the weight of the central column, the bearings and the foundation. A further benefit of this design was greater ease of transportation and installation. All these elements contributed to a lower cost. Adecon developed a prototype 125 kW machine, with a rotor 17 m in diameter and 25.5 m high, which was installed for testing at AWTS in February 1985. This led to the design of a commercial model, the "Adecon 19," with a 150 kW rating. - Area Notes
