This sign was used at the Duvernay Mine in the Val-D'or area, which was operated by Les mines D'Or Standard Ltd. The Val-D'or area is very important to Canadian mining since the discovery of gold there in 1923. Gold, copper, zinc and lead are still mined there today.

Function

This signage depicts a communication system used by hoist operators in case of emergencies in which radios will not work. A rope is attached to bells installed above ground. The sign indicates the number of pulls on the rope to communicate with the hoist operator.
