Designed and built in Canada. This was the first telephone designed by Northern Electric. Previous Northern Electric products had been American designs. Contempra phones were installed in many Canadian homes. - Function
-
Used to transmit and receive telephone signals for voice communication. - Technical
-
Comtempra was introduced in 1968 and was the first dial-in-hand design. Although it incorporated a standard transmitter, receiver and ringer, this phone was the product of extensive market testing and industrial design. It featured: dial and call cancel button on handset; suitability for desk or wall use without modification; extensive use of plastics. It was shown at New York's Museum of Fine Arts. This is a later model Contempra phone with a Digitone Keypad mounted in the handset rather than a rotary dial. - Area Notes
