This car phone system came to the Museum as part of a small collection of early mobile phone equipment donated to the Museum in 2008. The March 2012 Info Telecom newsletter featuring an article written by the donor, briefly describes his connection with the objects: "Louis Houbart is a wireless technology consultant who has worked in the field for the past 32 years. He has been a professional trainer since 1988 and has developed and given many courses and workshops on the subject. Louis is a member of the Community of Telecommunications Consultants."

Technical

In this particular case the radio unit would be installed in the trunk of the car. The cable, attached to the radio unit at one end, would be fed into the cabin, where the other end would be attached to the handset. And additional jack on the cable allows for the attachment of the hands-free unit, which in turn, is also connected to the hands-free microphone. This microphone can be mounted on the sun visor, or any other location that would limit road noise.
