Part of a large collection of medical artifacts, archival material & trade literature transferred to CSTM in 2002 from the former History of Medicine Museum, Toronto, ON. This piece was among a collection assembled by a former audiometric technician at the Hospital for Veterans on Christie St., Toronto pre-1945. [Ref. 2] This first day cover was first in a series on Canadian contributions to science and technology, and depicts important Canadian innovations in rail, air and space transportation. - Function

- "DAY OF ISSUE/ CANADA POST CORPORATION" in English and French, and cache illustration printed in upper left corner of envelope face. Circular postmark reads "DAY OF ISSUE/ JOUR D'EMISSION/ OTTAWA CANADA/ 86-02-27" and logo stamped in black ink over four stamps and in lower right of envelope front. ""Roger Hill '86" handwritten in black ink on envelope front. Each of for stamps bears colour illustration and text: "Canada 34/ ROTARY/ SNOWPLOW/ CHASSE NEIGE/ ROTATIF" [upper left]; Canada 34/ CANADARM/ BRAS SPATIAL/ CANADIEN" [upper right]; " Canada 34/ ANTIGRAVITY/ FLIGHT SUIT/ COMBINAISON/ DE VOL/ ANTIGRAVITE" [lower left]; and "Canada 34/ VARIABLE/ PITCH PROPELLER/ HELICE A PAS/ VARIABLE" [lower right]. "Considering the vastness of Canada and the/ diversity of it's climate, it is hardly surprising that/ Canadians have developed so many significant/ inventions in the field of transportation. UHN catalogue no. "986.8" printed by hand in pencil, also on envelope back.
