Function: To re-oxygenate blood that is being bypassed from the patient through heart-lung pump.
Technical: Design of parallel-plate oxygenator uses laminated sheet-like gas-permeable silicone membranes, with spacers placed between to maintain room for blood and gasses. [Ref. 4]] Sterilized prior to use. Self-contained unit is disposable and designed for single use. Among it's many advantages, the design causes minimal damage to blood filtered through it.
