THE CANDU IS A PRESSURIZED-HEAVY-WATER, NATURAL-URANIUM POWER REACTOR. DEUTERIUM IS MUCH MORE EFFICIENT AS A MODERATOR THAN LIGHT WATER, THUS ALLOWING THE USE OF NATURAL URANIUM AS A FUEL. AS A RESULT, THE CANDU IS CHEAPER TO FUEL, AND CAN THEROETICALLY GIVE HIGHER LIFETIME CAPACITY FACTORS. [REF.1] - Area Notes
