GOFFERING IRONS (ALSO CALLED TALLY IRON) ORIGINATED IN ITALY DURING 1600S. THEY WERE CREATED SPECIFICALLY FOR FORMING THE INTRICATE TUCKS, RUFFLES & RUFFS THEN FASHIONABLE. SPECIALLY STARCHEDMATERIAL WAS DRAPED OVER THE HEATED BARREL OR CYLINDER OF THE IRON. THIS HEAT WAS PROVIDED BY THE IRON LUG WARMED & INSERTED IN TUBE - Area Notes
