Canada: PART OF A LARGE & VARIED COLLECTION OF ELECTRICAL ITEMS ACQUIRED BY ONTARIO HYDRO IN THE 1960S. THIS COLLECTION CONSISTS OF OVER 7500 ARTIFACTS, AND IS THOUGHT TO BE THE LARGEST & MOST COMPREHENSIVE IN CANADA. IT WAS DONATED IN ITS ENTIRETY TO THE NATIONAL MUSEUM OF SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY IN 1992.
Function: TO CONNECT AN ELECTRICAL APPLIANCE WITH A POWER SUPPLY.
Technical: THE FINGER GRIP STYLE OF PLUG WAS INTRODUCED IN THE 1930S, AND REMAINED POPULAR THOUGH DESIGNS AND MATERIALS CHANGED OVER TIME. THIS MODEL WAS OFFERED IN ELECTRICAL CATALOGUES FROM 1935 TO 1950.
