- Text on plate reads "IN THE SUMMER OF 1940, BRITAIN/ STOOD WITH HER BACK TO THE WALL./ THE THIN LINE OF DEFENCE, 50 SQUADRONS/ OF HURRICANE AND SPITFIRE FIGHTERS,/ SEEMED PITIFULLY INADEQUATE AGAINST/ THE MASSIVE GERMAN AIR ASSAULT/ BEING LAUNCHED AGAINST ENGLAND./ BUT BRITAIN AND HER GALLANT FORCES/ STOOD FIRM AND TURNED THE TIDE. BY/ OCT. 31 THE CRISIS HAD ENDED./ CANADA WAS REPRESENTED IN THIS/ HISTORIC STRUGGLE BY R.C.A.F. NO. 1/ FIGHTER SQUADRON AND R.A.F.
