American made camera used at Dominion Observatory, Canada's predominant astronomical observatory which operated from 1905 to 1970. Deardorff sold #1270 V8 camera to dealer W.E. Booth, 12 Mercer st., Toronto, ON. 26.09.52 (ref. 3); presumably Dominion Observatory purchased it from Booth.

Function

This device was attached to the back of the camera and allowed larger view cameras to use smaller film sizes.

Technical

Folding field camera made by Deardorff, maker of several models of camera between 1923 and 1989. 8x10 view camera had front sliding panel and front tilt, rear tilt and swing, front and rear extension, all to allow increased physical and optical flexibility (ref. 2). Deardorff began making V8 camera with serial nos. in May 1950 starting with # 500 (ref. 2).
