USED FOR LOCALIZED BLOODLETTING, IN WHICH THE CAPILLARIES ARE SEVERED AND THE BLOOD IS DRAWN FROM THE BODY BY SOME MEANS OF SUCTION. CUPS WERE FIRST IMMERSED IN HOT WATER, THEN THE ALCOHOL LAMP WAS LIT & INSERTED INTO THE CUPS FOR 2 SECONDS. CUP WAS THEN APPLIED TO SKIN. GREAT DEXTERITY WAS REQUIRED TO LIFT CUP, APPLY SCARIFIER AND RECUP BEFORE THE TUMEFACTIONHAD SUBSIDED. (DAVIS, P. 24) - Technical
