measures magnetic flux by the current it generates in a coil/ flux is the rate at which electromagnetic energy flows through a surface/ magnetic flux density is measured in Gauss units/ this unit, given its association with a camera used for surveying & phtoogammetry, is possibly a.k.a. an earth magnetometer, which may have been used to measure the strength of the earth's magnetic field at several points on a land surface along a grid pattern, from which a map could be made - Technical

- engraved lettering on plate near handle reads: "CANADIAN AERO/SERVICE/20"; lettering printed on face of dial reads: "GAUSS/E.T.E.I. LTD./MODEL NO./23/SERIAL NO./685110"; numbering stamped into edge of box: "685110"; lettering on adhesive label affixed to underside of lid reads: "WY0023 FLUXMETER No. 1/INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE/1. Check the zero setting of both movements./2. Depress the button on the probe movement and check what full scale/deflection of the calibrated movement is attainable on all ranges./3. Turn the control knob of the panel fully anti-clockwise and insert the probe/into the gap of the magnet to be measured observing the following precautions/(a) Centralize the probe movement in the gap by means of the/concentric circles on the sides of the moulded case./(b) Align the probe so that the sides of the moulded case are/parallel to, and dqui-distant from, the pole faces of the magnet./4. Depress the button on the probe movement, and adjust the control knob on/the panel for full scale deflection of the probe movement. (If the probe/movement goes backwards, reverse its terminal connections.) Read off the/field on the appropriate scale of the calibrated movement."
