The type of vehicle was used extensively in Canada and North America. This particular vehicle was used only by the original owner from the time of purchase in 1958 until it was donated to the museum in 1983. The Beetle was first sold in Canada in 1952. Its popularity grew as consumers looked for alternatives to North America's large, gas-guzzling cars. By 1960, the Beetle was Canada's third best-selling car.
