Technical: TAPE DRIVES WERE USED FOR AUXILIARY DATA STORAGE FROM THE LATE 1940'S TO THE LATE 1960'S, AFTER WHICH THEY WERE GRADUALLY SUPPLANTED BY THE FASTER DIRECT ACCESS DISK DRIVES. AROUND 1970 ICL DISK DRIVES & A CONTROLLER (770890-891) WERE ADDED TO THE FP6000 SYSTEM.
