'LOKTAL' TUBES WERE THE 1ST TYPE IN WHICH THE BAKELITE BASE WAS DISPENSED WITH & THE LEAD OUT WIRES FORMED THE CONNECTING PINS. THIS PROVIDED BETTER PERFORMANCE AT HIGHER RADIO FREQUENCIES. THE CENTRAL METAL SPIGOT PROVIDED AN EARTH CONNECTION, LOCKED THE TUBE IN THE SOCKET, & PROVIDED A MEANS OF INDEXING (REF.1). - Area Notes
