FROM ITS PREDECESSOR TYPE THE CARRACK, THE GALLEON (CA. 1550-1650) HAD A MUCH REDUCED FORECASTLE SET BACK FROM THE PROW, WITH A BEAK LIKE PROJECTION, AND A SLIMMED-DOWN HULL. IT ALSO FEATURED AN EXTRA MIZZEN MAST AND A STERN RAISED IN STEPS, RATHER THAN A BIG 'CASTLE'. THE CASTRICUM WAS A LATE GALLEON. - Area Notes
