NOTED FOR ITS HIGH DEGREE OF ORNAMENTATION, THIS 'CLAM SHELL' TYPE OF PRESS HAD A SEPARATE IRON STAND FOR EASIER DISASSEMBLY AND MOVING. ITS MECHANICS WERE SIMILAR TO THE GALLEY PRESS (1869) ON WHICH THE CONNECTION ARM IS SLOTTED AND THE PLATEN SLIDES FORWARD TO THE BED TO OBTAIN AN EVEN IMPRESSION. - Area Notes
