USERS LIKED THE TELEPHONE'S EXTERNAL STYING: A VOLUME ADJUSTABLE RINGER, A FLAT HANDSET WHICH WAS EASILY PROPPED UNDER THE EAR, AND LETTERS PRINTED AROUND THE OUTSIDE OF THE DIAL RATHER THAN ON THE DIAL FACE. TECHNICALLY, THE SET WAS CAPIABLE OF PROVIDING HIGH QUALITY TRANSMISSION, AND EFFICIENT DIALING & RINGING OVER LONGER DISTANCES WITH FINER GAUGE CABLES. (REF. 2) - Area Notes

"Northern Electric/ PATENTED 1939 1943 1953 1955 RD 1948/ MADE IN CANADA" cast in raised print on telephone body casing back, below cradle. Dial faceplate marked 1 through 0, A through P, R through Y, and "OPERATOR". "MADE IN CANADA" stamped into baseplate. "LOUD" with left facing directional arrow, "-59", and "C/D/ 500" stamped on baseplate.
