THIS TRANSIT DISPLAYS A NUMBER OF UNUSUAL CHARACTERISTICS. THE PLUMB BOB HOOK IS HIGHLY PLACED: IT IS ROUGHLY LEVEL WITH THE LEVELLING SCREWS. THERE IS A CIRCULAR OPENING ON THE LOCKING PLATE FOR LEVELLING THE SCREW FEET: THIS OPENING SURROUNDS A SMALL POST, AND LIMITS THE SLIDING MOVEMENT OF THE LOCKING FEET. IT IS FITTED WITH A SCREW-COLLAR TO LOCK THE PLATE: A SMALL LEVER-STYLE FITTING IS MORE COMMON. IT ALSO FEATURES THE ADDITION OF SMALL SIGHTS ON THE TELESCOPE. - Area Notes
