THE VICTORIA BRIDGE WAS A SIGNIFICANT ENGINEERING FEAT FOR THE TIME. IT CONSISTED OF 25 SPANS OF 242 FT. EACH; ONE IN CENTRE OF 350 FT; TUBES OF IRON 22 FT. HIGH & 16 FT WIDE, AND WEIGHING 6,000 TONS SUPPORTED ON 24 PIERS CONTAINING 250,000 TONS OF STONE; EXTREME LENGTH 2 MILES. - Area Notes
